Interferometric Imaging With Terahertz Pulses
We demonstrate a new reflection imaging technique using single-cycle pulses, in which the sample to be imaged is placed at the focus of a lens in one arm of a Michelson interferometer. The detected signal is the superposition of the pulses from the two arms of the interferometer, one with a sample and one with a reference mirror. Because of the Gouy phase shift from the lens in the sample arm, ...
متن کاملComplete Characterization of Light Waves using Attosecond Pulses
The most direct way to probe the strength of an electric field, is to measure the force that exerts to a charged particle. For a time varying field, charge placement within an interval substantially shorter than the characteristic period of variation of the field is essential for sampling its temporal evolution. Employing such a scheme to track the field variation of light waves that changes it...
متن کاملGeneration of 160-ps terawatt-power CO(2) laser pulses.
We have developed a three-stage CO(2) master-oscillator-amplifier system that produces 1.1 TW of peak power. The system generates 170 J of energy in a diffraction-limited 160+/-10ps pulse on the 10P(20) line. We also report the realization of a two-wavelength terawatt-peak-power CO(2) laser that can be tuned to an arbitrary pair of lines. A two-stage semiconductor switching system driven by a p...
متن کاملGeneration of intense 8-fs pulses at 400 nm.
Frequency-doubled pulses from a sub-40-fs, 1-kHz Ti:sapphire amplifier system are spectrally broadened in an argon-filled hollow waveguide. Compression of the self-phase-modulated pulses is implemented with chirped mirrors and a prism pair, yielding 8-fs, 15-muJ pulses in the violet spectral range.
